Hi guys!
Today I thought it'd be interesting to show you the masterminds behind NCT’s choreography, so let's get started.
Tony Testa
Tony Testa, short for Anthony Joseph Testa, is an American choreographer, creative director, educator, and dancer. He’s trained in contemporary, tap, ballet, jazz, partnering, flamenco, butoh, and street dance.
Testa’s passion for dance led him to choreograph or share the stage with Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Janet Jackson, among others.
He has done commercial work with Versace, Sketchers, Toyota, Disney, Nickelodeon, and the Grammys too, to name a few. Testa has choreographed for films as well, like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Descendants 2, and contributed a dance for The Greatest Showman.
He was also nominated for Motion Picture with Kenny Ortega, a famous director/choreographer (he directed High School Musical and choreographed for Dirty Dancing) in the 2018 World Choreography Awards for his work in Descendants 2.
On his career expansion in Korea, Testa has been picked by SM Entertainment to train their artists. Accordingly, he has worked with TVXQ (Something and Catch Me), Shinee (Sherlock, Dream Girl, Everybody, and Married To The Music), Girls Generation (Lion Heart), and EXO (Wolf, Overdose and was the art director for EXO’s first solo concert “The Lost Planet”)
Testa is also the mastermind behind NCT’s amazing choreography, such as NCT 127’s Firetruck, Cherry Bomb, and Superhuman. NCT 2018’s Black on Black, and NCT Dream’s My First and Last. And, he has been with NCT since the beginning of their trainee days and taught them to become the amazing dancers they are now.
Ill - Prepix
Lee Ilhyung, better known as Ill, is a respected choreographer in the Korean dance industry. At first, he trained in jazz but then entered the world of hip-hop and joined Prepix, where he will then run the Prepix Dance Studio with his colleagues and become one of their instructors. He is also a Professor of Practical Dance at Hoseo University.
Ill’s work in the Kpop industry is not that much compared to Testa, but he has choreographed for BIA4, EXO, Taemin, TVXQ, and Hoya. He’s also NCT’s trainer, choreographer, and dance practice camera director. So you see him a lot in the Behind The Scenes of their dance practice videos or their Music Video shoot. He has worked with them for a very long time which is why he’s very close with the boys, he even invited them to his wedding.
Some of his choreographies for NCT are WayV’s Take Off and Regular, Boom by NCT Dream, and Baby Don’t Stop by NCT U. That’s only the choreographies he worked on alone, he also co-choreographed:
1.NCT U – Boss with Rie Hata
2.NCT 127 – Wakey-Wakey with Rino Kinawa
3.NCT 127 – Touch with Melvin Timtim
4.NCT Dream – We Go Up with Rie Hata
5.NCT Dream – My First and Last with Tony Testa
6.NCT Dream – 1,2,3 with Baiba Klints
7.WayV – Comeback with Kida The Great
8.Ten – New Heroes with Ten
9.Ten – Dream in A Dream with Ten and Prepix Haw
10.Ten – All his Hit The Stage performance with Ten
11.SuperM – Jopping (And Ten’s Teaser)
12.NCT 2018 – Black On Black with Tony Testa
13.NCT Dream – Hot Sauce with Melvin Timtim, The Quickstyle, and Rie Hata
NCT
Last but not least, NCT members themselves. But I think Taeyong, Ten, and Mark are involved in choreography the most. They may have not choreographed for their title tracks but they do give suggestions and choreographed their solos, etc.
Taeyong does a bunch of freestyle dances (like Oh Go, Paris in The Rain, Wow, and Havanna) that are up on NCT’s Channel, I recommend you to check it out. He also choreographed NCT 127’s Whiplash Performance at K-Con 2018.
Then we have Ten. You can find his choreographies including Coco Channel and Taki-Taki on NCT’s channel, he also does freestyle. He co-choreographed most of his solos including his SuperM teaser, all his 'Hit The Stage" performance, New Heroes, Dream in A Dream, and lovely.
And then Mark. He does freestyle as well just like Taeyong and Ten and he also choreographed his solos, including NCT Dream’s intro for the Gayo Daejon in 2018 which is quite a big show.
Well, that’s all I’m gonna talk about today! There are a lot more choreographers that are involved with NCT’s amazing performance. Let me know if you want a part 2!
